[Aquamacs-devel] Problem with isearch

Periodically in aquamacs I get myself into a state where isearch simply
doesn't work.
By this I mean that I can use C-s (which I have bound to
isearch-forward-regexp) type in a substring which I can clearly see
before me in the buffer, and aquamacs will tell me that it can't be
found. In this state, conventional isearch and isearch-backward won't
work either. The behavior is global to aquamacs -- isearch is busted in
all buffers. But it is only and isearch problem. search-forward will
still work. Some times when I'm in this state and I type something I'll
get "[(wrong type argument stringp nil)]"
When I shut down aquamacs and start it up again, this goes away.
I realize that this is a TERRIBLE bug report, and I would like to make a
better one, but it defeats my usual bug reporting practice, which
usually involves using the debugger. But this isn't an error condition
to aquamacs, it's just a bad behavior. Even the wrong type argument
error I can't capture in the debugger.
Can anyone suggest to me some steps I might take to try to identify the
state that aquamacs is in, so that it can be debugged?
thanks,
