[Aquamacs-devel] Problem with/question about Aquamacs 2.0

Hi,

I downloaded the latest nightly of Aquamacs 2.0 with the intention to
start using it, but it gives me an error upon start-up saying that it
does not recognise the utf-8m coding system of Preferences.el. The
funny thing is that I byte-compile Preferences.el from dired in
Aquamacs 2.0 and then try to load the byte-compiled Preferences.elc
and I get the very same error. I'd be grateful for any ideas that
lead to a solution of this problem. I really cannot do much without
reading the Preferences.el, unless I go back to using .emacs.

More worryingly, it insists in reading this Preferences.el file:

        ~/Library/Preferences/Aquamacs Emacs/Preferences.el

instead of this:

        ~/Library/Preferences/Aquamacs/Preferences.el

Both files exist, because I would like to distinguish between Aquamacs
Emacs.app (1.8) and Aquamacs.app (2+) and hence I have two separate
~/Library/Preferences/ directories and also two separate
~/Library/Application Support/ directories where I keep my "local"
elisp files: vm, bbdb, my own stuff,...

Maybe this is unnecessary, but I wasn't sure whether elisp files
byte-compiled with Aquamacs 1.8 (based on GNU Emacs 22) would be
compatible with the Emacs 23 in Aquamacs 2.0. Any suggestions on how
to keep Aquamacs 1.8 and 2.0 coexisting happily on my Mac (at least
until I don't have to rely on 1.8) would be most welcome.

Cheers, José
