[Aquamacs-devel] Aquamacs 2.0 icon - plans

You will have seen my previous message summarizing the results of the
icon survey by now.

The people have spoken: they want to keep the current gnu head icon.

Of course we have to take this result with a grain of salt: the people
I asked are fans of the program, they have been using it for a long
time and associate this icon with the application. On the other
hand, their reasoning makes sense: Emacs and Aquamacs are platforms
for doing more than working with the kinds of text you'd expect to see
on a notepad. And obviously there is some brand recognition at least
among our current users. That's worth something.

Re-branding is always tricky, and I'd only like to do it if the new
logo is really worth it. Despite all the work that Jessie (who
contributed #2-#5) and I have done, it seems that we haven't found
this new logo yet.

So, what do we do? One option is to revise the current logo, perhaps
by making it a little more "Aqua" and a little more glowing.

On the other hand, I know of only one popular app (Adium) that gets
away with such a non-metaphoric figure, and the icons on OS X are
generally not like ours. Also, now (2.0) would be a good time to re-
brand, IMHO.

Your opinions? Alternative suggestions?
